If you’re near or passing through Nantes, Les Machines de L’Ile is well worth a stop. They make giant robotic animals, many of which you can ride on. The prices are good, though the lines can be long on a hot summer day if you don’t book ahead. The elephant is glorious to watch, even more so than riding him, in my opinion. The three-story carousel of marine creatures is great fun. You wander around the levels, choose the creature you want to ride, and wait in line specifically for it: I recommend the front seat of the lantern fish on level two.
