Le Mont Saint Michel

We cannot say enough about visiting this amazingly beautiful place. Rick's guidebook helped us with our tour and we really enjoyed our visit. A must do, and certainly a bucket list item for us.

I was greatly disappointed last year, as the approach via road rather than the old tidal causeway means the place has lost much of its magic. It was the low point in a 3.5 week trip to France for me. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

We stayed overnight there and that is when it really does turn magical. I swear I could hear horses hooves going up the cobblestone streets.

Just got back from there last week. Not sure how the road changes anything. Still an amazing site as you approach the Mont on foot along the paved road. The Abbey and its history is really unique. The little village is cute with friendly shopkeepers. We had a lot of fun and my wife felt it was one of the best parts of our 2 week trip. So easy to reach from Bayeux with a rental car, took us about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Is there a dress code for the Abby? (long pants required?)

Jennifer I thought access to the Mont had now changed and the tide could now go all round it? Where as when i last went and stayed overnight the road ( that stayed dry) went right up to the gate, that was 11 years ago. Definately recommend staying the night and avoiding the daytime crush.
