Lake Bohinj-Slovenia

My sister, brother-in-law, nephew and I enjoyed a wonderful few days in the Lake Bohinj area last month. We stayed in an Air B&B in Stara Fuzina.
Day 1- our arrival day. We flew into the Ljubljana airport and picked up the rental car we had reserved on line. We were pretty exhausted and jet lagged, but we stopped at a Lidl for some picnic supplies and enjoyed a picnic beside Lake Bled. After a stroll by the lake we made our way to our B&B and had a burger and beers at the Foksner restaurant for dinner.
Day 2- My nephew had a great experience paragliding with the Kumulus company. The rest of us went up the Vogel cable car and enjoyed the views from the top. We had a quick coffee break (with Nutella crepes) at the Kramar restaurant and watched my nephew land in a field nearby. We hiked up to the Savica Waterfall, kind of challenging for us 60 something year olds. We ended up the day with a simple dinner in our B&B and gelato from a shop near the lake for dessert.
Day 3- We hiked the Mostnica Gorge (another pretty challenging hike) and ended up at an "Alpine Hut" restaurant (not sure of the restaurant's name.) We ate out on the balcony with incredible views. We had some hearty Slovenian stews while we enjoyed the view.
Day 4- We had a full day! We started at Lake Bled. We took a boat out to the island, walked around for about 45 minutes and took the boat back. We then had a piece of cream cake and a cup of coffee at the Park Cafe.
We then drove up to Kranjska Gora and the Vrsic Pass. We followed the suggestions by Rick Steves and really enjoyed our day. The mountain views were beautiful and we made many stops along the way. It took several hours to make the loop back to Lake Bohinj, but it was definitely worth it. On our way back we stopped at the Lajnar guest house for dinner. It was one of my favorite meals of the trip, not necessarily because of the food, but the view and the atmosphere of the restaurant were just right.
The next morning we took off for Croatia, Lake Plitvice and Rovinj (with a stop in Bosnia on the way.)

Hi, bookgirl. I remember seeing some of your questions over the last couple of years. I'm glad you made it to Bohinj and had a great time. I love that place! The Mostnica Gorge hike is great, and the location of the "alpine hut" is indeed spectacular.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on your Lake Bled experience. I went to the castle right after doing an early-morning loop hike that included Vintgar Gorge. I got a piece of cream cake and a fruit-flavored tea at the castle. They were both spectacular in my hot, thirsty, hungry state. That's a happy memory! The views from the castle were grand, too. The walk around the lake? I'll give it a strong okay... of course, that was back in late August 2019... the place was packed. I don't remember the restaurant, but I had a great meal at an Italian place just across the street from the lake... recommended by the local with whom I hiked that morning!
