My partner and I enjoy keeping busy while we travel - today, we are finishing up an 18 day vacation to Europe after visiting the following cities - Paris, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Venice, Rome, Munich, and Baden Baden. We had the Rick Steves book on all the cities and had a great time always being on the move. The one thing Rick always talks about is having a hotel in the center of everything - we didn't in Rome, where we spent four nights. We stayed at the Waldroff Astoria - cashed in Hilton Hhonors points for a free stay. Although they have a shuttle to the downtown, we feel we missed some of the nightlife and the action of being in the middle of it. Overall though, it was a great trip and we really enjoyed all the walking tours and audio guides. Also the history in the books helped make sense of everything. In the end, it was a great trip and we fly home tomorrow with great memories, mostly from what we have learned from the guidebooks. So, in summary - stay by the things you want to see and follow all the walking tours!
Jacob what a busy trip but sounds like you had a ton of fun.. I agree its best to stay in center of things, sometimes its a bit cheaper to stay less central but we tend to find its not off set by the waste of time and extra expense of having to commute. Plus, I just love walking out my door and being "there".
