Kanazawa, Japan

Visited Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Gardens today.

So beautiful, both places, but unfortunately you never have enough time on a shore excursion.

These places were highly recommended to me by forum and i will add my recommendation.

I liked Kanazawa just by driving to and from the Castle and Gardens.

Guess who got lost in the Gardens trying to find her way back to her meeting point?

I ate at a stand. I ate something like sticky dumplings covered with green tea. It was ok but I did love the soft ice cream with gold leaf.

Yes, the food combinations in Japan are challenging and didn’t really appeal to us. We tried the green stuff - matcha - and did not like it.
Hope the food on the ship is better.

Ice cream with gold leaf was high on my travel companion’s must-tries last year. I’m not sure I “get it”, but I indulged also.

I’m enjoying your reports and glad you liked Kanazawa.

The snack is most probably dango, a string of glutinous rice flour balls on a stick. Indeed not my favorite, very sticky and mostly tastes like the sauce on top, unless they're really charred.

Hi Barbara

The food on ship is hit or miss. It is definitely ok. And there is plenty My problem is that I mix up my food. Have to learn to keep items separated. I am hearing about a complimentary restaurant named Windows which guests are really liking. Going to try it today, a sea day.

Hello Ordtraveler

You were a very big help in planning this trip and glad that you are reading and enjoying the reports.

Today is a sea day and we are all so glad for a sea day but we are passing through some straits between 3 and 5 pm. Do not recall the name of the straits.

Flying home on Sunday Hope we can fly home given the slowdown with air traffic controllers.

balso, thank you.

I want to try some Japanese food. The snack yesterday was ok but after the first two pieces, it was too much.

Still I tried.

I have eaten a lot of Japanese food at home. And love it. Ship food is keeping me full. And we do not have much time to eat in port.

Update

I met a couple last night who did their own thing in Kanazawa. Shuttle buses into the city were $20 each and the loop bus was $6. The went to all the same places that I did for $26. My excursion cost over $200.

But given that I got lost in the Gardens, it is probably best that I stick with excursions.

Hate to say that my mobility issues are also getting worse and becoming more apparent to others.

Our excursion was only supposed to be to the castle and The Gardens but we were also taken to the market. I think this was done to infuse money into the market. I would have preferred to spend more time at the gardens. I ate there.
