Is Europe safe to travel now with the war in Ukraine going on?

We plan to travel in Sept. on the 13 day Germany tour, and not sure if we should cancel with all that is going on in Europe?

It's very hard to predict what will be happening there next month, much less in September, but I wouldn't expect problems in Germany. We've booked the Eastern Europe trip for September, and I feel confident that if we shouldn't be going, Rick Steves will cancel the trip. If the trip's on, then I will feel safe going. Over the last two years of the pandemic, I've learned that we can be confident that the Rick Steves organization will place the safety of tour members and the countries they're visiting over any profits.

If things start going nuclear, then you are no safer in America than Europe. Germany is a huge country and can absorb many refugees. You may not notice that anything has happened on the ground.

It maybe sorted one way or the other by September. The tours aren’t going to run if it’s not safe.

Cannot tell you what to do. It’s your call. We are still planning our trip to Europe in exactly two months! Check out some good threads on this forum…General Europe. I found it very helpful!

No one can predict what is going to happen that far in advance, but tours that won't get insured due to safety issues simply will be cancelled. I don't see any upside of cancelling this early, unless you stand to lose a deposit or any other money.

Don’t you think Rick Steves Europe would cancel the tour if it they considered it unsafe.

I agree that I would monitor and trust Rick Steve’s travel groups to help decide my European travel safety concerns.

Rick Steve’s is based in Washington. They have strict consumer protection laws. If they cancel you get your money back within 2 weeks. For airfare and other potentially non refundable costs you need to insure or buy refundable tickets. For travel insurance advice go to insuremytrip.com. As others have said, RSE won’t go if they think it’s not safe.
