Iberia Airlines

There is a reason that they have all reviews ranging from 1.9-2.0. The reviews don’t lie. I purchased a business class ticket for $7900.00 & I was told that I could make a date change without any cost. I called back because the call got disconnected & I was told by a different agent that not only would it be at no cost but the ticket price is now $3000.00 higher. I was lied to & misled. Steven

More than likely a fake Iberia phone number. Lots of scam travel agencies post saying they are Iberia or other airlines and to call them. They then hook you for lots of extra fees.

There is no reason to call a major airline to make a booking. You can do it all online. If you are told to call a phone number for a special deal, it's a scam.

The official Iberia phone number from the USA is 1-800-772-4642. Anything else is phony.

A scam is definitely a possibility, but I would also ask the time of day when you called,
and whether you could discern if the call was routed to a Spanish call center or not.
Late night in the US, for instance, calls are often routed back to Europe where it's
daytime business hours.

If it was, and there was perhaps some misunderstanding due to language, it's possible
the quote is due to some misinterpretation of your request. Or, maybe the fare class
you purchased is sold out for your specific flight and this is what's left.

You might be able to look at the original email from your purchase and see if it says
anything about changes/cancellations.

I am not endorsing or recommending Iberia, but I have flown them a few times and
they are at least adequate. If you called a rogue number, well, that's obviously on you.

Also, I would move this from Trip Reports to Transportation if you want more input.

But sometimes there is no fee to change the ticket, but then the new ticket is for a more expensive date. I wonder if that idi buried somewhere in tiny print.
I agree that I'd be really angry but that may have been what happpened.

I fly Iberia at least once-twice a year, and about 3 years ago I did change the return date but only by one day, and it cost me nothing. But that does not help you, I'm afraid...sorry this happened.

The cost of the ticket was exactly the same on their website. This no difference in fare nor change fee.

Welcome to the Forum! There is so much help available here and I always value the advice.
It's not entirely clear if you booked this ticket on Iberia's website or on the phone, although I think the latter?
I can't afford business class, but in all fare categories the airlines have varying classes of restrictions and perks within those fares and the cheapest typically doesn't allow cancellation (non- refundable).
Do you have the option to cancel this booking completely, and receive a flight credit, to rebook?
Good luck!
From their website:
"If you want to cancel your flight and request a refund for the price of the ticket, or if you want to change the date or time, you can do so if you chose a flexible fare in any of the Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, or if you added Flexible Ticket as an extra. Fares with restrictions do not allow refunds or changes, or if they do there is a penalty fee.
For tickets bought on iberia.com, check the refund conditions in Manage your booking or call our Booking offices. For tickets bought through an agency, contact them.
