HOTELS - LONDON, PARIS, ROME, FLORENCE

We wanted small, clean, friendly hotels so searched Bookings.com for 2 and 3 star places. Focus on ratings ABOVE 8 - and uniformly high cleanliness ratings. Ratings below 8 usually mean there are disadvantages. Ignore complaints like the room was small, the lift was small, there was no kettle (unless you're a Brit and that's culturally important to you). They're from folks who's expectations are too high for 2/3 star places. Our choices were: Lon-SURTEES B&B- Warwick Way, near Victoria station, very clean, small, happy staff, good breakfast. No A/C but in London, who needs it. PARIS-VENDOME ST GERMAIN Rue d'Arras in the Left Bank -1 min walk from tube Cardinal Lemoigne. Very clean, big rooms, geranium boxes, balconies, lift. No A/C. Desk Clerk personalities variable. Breakfast 8euros but "Breakfast-in-America" diner just around the corner (cheap & bountiful)! Stay here, you'll love it ROME - HOTEL SONYA, Via Viminale (a 10 min walk from Termini) good value, A/C, Lift, big breakfast. Very clean w/lots of fresh towels. FLORENCE - Puorto Faenza, Via Faenza. Wonderful value. Huge, high rooms, A/C, breakfast. 5 min walk from Florence SMN train station and within walking distance of Duomo, Academia, Medici Chapel etc. Maybe a bus ride to Uffizi, and Pitti Palace if it's hot, but you can walk it comfortably. Definitely consider this one.

Thanks for posting Bill. Had to laugh at your kettle observation,,I agree totally, its funny to see how it affects Brits to get a hotel room with no kettle,, its a major problem for many of them they will always mark a hotel down for that..
