We plan to spend 3 nights in Bayeaux in late September (and will do a full day tour with Overlord one day). Any recommendations for modestly priced hotel?
We ended up in an Airbnb but I had wanted to stay at Le Petit Matin Bed and Breakfast. Our dates weren't available. There's also Hotel Villa Lara, but it's a bit pricey.
We have not stayed there yet, but are booked at Hotel d'Argouges in September. I found it through recommendations on this forum.
In Bayeux, we loved Le Petit Matin, a very lovely B&B, very close to town but quiet. It is immaculate with lovely linens and beautiful grounds. The host is gracious and accomodating. They serve a gourmet breakfast and their prices are very reasonable.

Thanks for the recommendations. It must be a busy weekend, as several of these suggestions are booked.
We stayed at Villa Aggarthi about three blocks from the town center. It is a lovely bed and breakfast we really enjoyed it in September 2023 and my son and his wife were there five weeks ago and they were equally impressed. We each stayed three nights. I think it was about three hundred euros a night.
We stayed at Villa Aggarthi a bed and breakfast about quarter mile from town center with free parking. We were very happy with our choice 9/23 and our son and his wife were just there the end of April and they totally agreed. I seem to remember it was close to three hundred euros a night but not sure.
Back in 2018 I stayed 5 nights at Hotel Reine Mathilde at 23 rue Larcher.

We enjoyed our stay in Arromanches which is fairly close to Bayeaux if you want to look at an alternative. Its been a while but we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Mulberry https://www.hotel-le-mulberry.com/ We enjoyed dinner at the hotel as well. If you don't stay in Arromanches, I recommend stopping for some time in the town. There is a nice beach and the remnants of an artificial harbor built for D-Day. There is a nice, small museum right on the beach.
Like VAP, I also stayed at the Rheine Mathilde. I'd stay there again.
Great locaation for everything.
We were pleased with our stay at Hotel Lion d’ Of. Their dining room was excellent.
We love to discover amazing lodging and we found Chateau de Damigny right outside of Bayeaux.
Beautiful grounds, wonderful breakfast, and a coffee and cookie greeting when we arrived.
We stayed at Hotel Churchill….walked out the back door after breakfast where the Overlord Tour van was waiting for us to tour Omaha beach……great location, laundry and grocery nearby and a wonderful breakfast.
We stayed at Hotel d'Argouges last month. It's set back from the street and has a garden in the back so it was very quiet. Lovely breakfast room. Nice staff. We had the family room on the third floor which was nice. It had a dressing room and a separate toilet room. The only downside is that there is no elevator in case stairs are a problem.
We had great stays at the Rheine Mathilde as well as the Churchill. Both stays were about 10-12 years ago, so obviously check current reviews, but the locations were excellent.
Thanks for the recommendations. It must be a busy weekend, as several of these suggestions are booked.
I feel your pain! We started looking into Bayeux hotel options 3 months before our late May 2023 trip, and encountered the same problem. We snagged the last remaining room at Grand Hotel du Luxembourg.
https://www.grand-hotel-luxembourg.com/en/ It was mostly good, but the room was small and the buffet breakfast was OK, not great. They offered more than a roll and coffee at least. The local cheese, for which Normandie is known, was delicious; the scrambled eggs, not so much. Excellent location on a quiet street, but within easy walking distance to many wonderful restaurants. It is more centrally located than Hotel d'Argouges, but not as nice. They have a dedicated parking area for guests (for an additional fee), which is helpful because parking in that area is quite limited and restrictive. If you'll have a car, this is not an insignificant detail. They do have an elevator, which is helpful if your room is on the top floor (3 or 4 flights up, if I recall).
The same people operate a neighboring hotel, Hotel de Brunville: https://www.hotel-de-brunville.com/en/
I believe those guests also have breakfast at the Grand Hotel du Luxembourg. That might explain why it was so darned crowded in the rather small breakfast room each morning.
My complaints notwithstanding, we were grateful to have found this place when we did! It was our first time visiting Normandie, and we had no idea we would need to book so far in advance. (Of course, I now understand that late May/early June is peak season, as it is near the June 6 D-Day Anniversary.) I did a quick search at Grand Hotel Luxembourg, and it looks like they have availability every weekend in Sept. Take a look.
If you're able to find a room at Hotel Reine Mathilde (or even if you can't), another plus is that they have a good restaurant on the ground floor, Le Garde Manger. It's a simple brasserie that we enjoyed one night for dinner.
Bon Chance
If you are totally out of luck on independent inns and B&B's, I can recommend the Bayeux Novotel at the edge of town. 20 minute walk to city center and Overlord pick-up - not a challenging walk at all. Hotel will call a taxi for you if needed.
The hotel has a restaurant and typical services for a 4-star. I know many RS travelers prefer something with "character" so I hadn't mentioned it earlier. Not much in the way of charm or individuality, but that's OK with me. I frequently stay at places where I have "status" - I used points to stay there last fall.
We recently stayed for 6 nights in May 2025 at Le Petit Matin in Bayeux. EXCELLENT bed/breakfast. Pascal the host is outstanding. Book as early as possible we stayed in the Rose Bonbon room. Lovely and roomy. His breakfast are excellent. Excellent location we walked to everything. If you’re going to do the historical tours we recommend OVERLORDTOURS.com. Excellent. We did 4 days in a row with 4 different guides and 4 different tours. They were excellent. We booked directly on their website
Bayeux is a lovely town……see the tapestry, the cathedral and enjoy walking its charming streets!
We stayed at Manoir Saint Hubert May 2025, a B&B in Saint-Vigor-le Grand (just on the edge of Bayeux proper) easy Uber/Taxi from the train. Easy walk to shops and restaurants, and the meeting spot for the Overlord Tour. The host, Yseult, is warm and welcoming. Her breakfast spread was not only delicious, it was beautiful. The Manor has been in her family since 1755. Our family of 4 adults stayed in the Family Suite on the top floor - 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a sitting area, with access to a 2nd bathroom down 1 floor. You are the only guests when staying there, and have access to the beautiful grounds, as well as the living/dining rooms on the main floor. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Manoir Saint Hubert.
