Just got back from a Mediterranean cruise on HAL, and the extra days in Rome and Florence, using all of your guides and audio tours.
We don't agree with your comments about Civitavecchia. Since we landed one day early before the sailing, we thought it best to stay there instead of going to Rome for a quick turn around. There are nice hotels there, an excellent beach front with an amazing statue of the famous sailor and nurse from the WWII photo in Times Square, and a fine seafood restaurant that you should recommend, the "Capo Horn"; excellent fresh fish, service and reasonably priced. With the current economic situation in Italy, they could use the business. The next day, the hotel provided free shuttle service to the pier.
