Does anyone have recent experience with any of these three offline map apps. I have read all the posts I could find, many of them a couple of years old. One poster switched from Maps.me to Here Maps saying it did everything he wanted as did Maps.me but easier interface. He also said that he had prefered Maps.me to CityMaps2Go as the later did not provide offline routing. But that was 2 years ago and these things update often. Would love up to date info and experience.
Ulmon CityMaps2GoPro updated its software and maps this spring. It appears thst each country id broken up into fewer but larger maps. My devices are not memory-starved, but I've had a great deal of trouble since the update.
What I have not liked is:
the instability of the app, which typically locks up if I load a map and then put the phonr away.
delayed identifiction of my location after a major move.
frequent disappearance of the entire map when it's tracking my location and I try to zoom in, zoom out or move the map. A blue location dot on a black screen is disconcerting.
the need to guess which vaguely-titled map covers a specific city. Example: Is Chester in SW England or NW England?
I suspect map size is the root of these problems, which I've bern dealing with for almost 4 months, though France (my first destination) was better than England.
I continue to use HERE maps and am very happy with it. I love preparing the map before hand and then being able to use it when I'm in country without any cellular or wifi connection.
Another great app if you're going to be in cities is CityMapper which puts together public transportation with everything. I use it daily in Paris, where I've lived for 11 years, and have used it quite a bit in London and also in Rome. It's great.
