We recently spent several days in Appenzell. In Rick Steves Switzerland book, one of the recommendations for lodging is Haus Lydia. We stayed there and it was a great time. Lydia is friendly, funny, congenial and will help you with your Swiss German if you like. The breakfast is delicious, plentiful and included in the room price. The coffee is very good. The rooms are comfortable. Lydia even offered some hiking tips. Getting to her B&B is about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the train station. If you have a car you can drive there and park right out front. The price is reasonable. We had a great time and highly recommend Haus Lydia.
Rick, if you read these posts, Lydia said it has been a few years since you have stayed there. She would like you to come back.
I don't think Rick reads posts on this forum so you might email him and tell him Lydia wants him to make a return visit. And, that you had a wonderful time there!
