Grossarltal, Austria

This valley is a gem. I am here today 25 September 2021 and have a beautiful cloudless blue sky day with 22C high Temp. The eye poping green pastures and defined mountains are beautiful. Pictures do not do it justice. I am staying in Huettschlag in an apartment. Listening to the cow bells as I type. I have been many places in the Alps, but for my tastes this is near perfect. I took an easy walk today from the Talmuseum to the Oetzlsee. The only english I hear is in my head. Everyone has been really friendly. Not a lot going on as far as hotels and restaurants at the end of the valley. Quiet and relaxed. Fresh eggs from the Bauernhof for breakfast. I drove here, but with all the bus stops public transportation should not be a problem. If you have time spend a few days here and enjoy.

Thanks for the report. I hope to make it back to Austria in the next few years (a few other places in line ahead of it right now). This will be on the list of places to consider for a stay.

Our first trip to Europe included Austria and Germany. We absolutely fell in love with Austria, so I was excited to look up this town and find out more. It turns out we stayed in St. Johann Im Pongau, very close to Grossarltal. I’m not surprised at all that you love it! It’s a magical area.

If you have a chance, check out the fortress in Werfen. You can also go paragliding. My husband enjoyed the ice caves near Werfen as well. We stayed in the area for a week and day tripped to Salzburg, Hallstatt and Berchtesgaden. So much beauty in that area.
