My husband and I spent 2 nights (only a day and a half) in Budapest and hired a local guide for 4 hours. Wow, was it money well spent!!!! We contacted two guides in Rick's book, but neither was available. However, Andrea Makkay was incredibly helpful and set us up with Magdi Pelech (06 30 990 9346). We let Andrea know that we high school chorus teachers and Magdi arrived with two pieces of Hungarian choral music. She mapped out a whirlwind afternoon starting at the Bartok House/Museum (we would have NEVER found this on our own)and hitting the highlights of Buda and Pest. Moreover, on the bus rides to destinations, Magdi spoke of growing up in communist Hungary, what it means to be a Magyar, and a fascinating insight of life in Budapest. I cannot say enough good things about Magdi and the great value of a local guide when your time is short.
