I saw Ricks show on the Jungfrau and was smitten by the idea of riding a bike from Murren down to LAUTERBRUNNEN.. I did not follow Ricks advice on planning carefully and really shocked the budget.. Since we had a few unplanned days before, I wasn't sure enough to buy a rail pass. And not in Switzerland long enough for a Swiss pass. Traveling in Italy pretty much was cheaper buying point to point tickets.. Got to Switzerland and everything was much higher and no discounts without rail pass... The tram up and down was $12 each, to schilthorn over $90. The train up the Jungfrau is $170 each. Definitely worth staying a few days and getting a pass. Just the bus from LAUTERBRUNNEN to the Schilthorn tram was $5 one way. The other thing... May is early in the season and much is closed, especially in Murren. Arrived at our delightful place at Esther's Guesthouse to find only one place open for dinner, which was kind of spendy but good. Went down to Lauterbrunnen to get some groceries and avoid the $60-70 cost of eating modestly, only to find the store closed on Sunday. We're able to buy some snacks at the bakery though.
