gentleman from Fla?

Does anyone on this site remember a guy from Fla. that had a short answer for everyone, very sharp and pithy? When I first ventured on here, I never wanted to be "attacked" by him. He was great but scary!! I can't think of his name!

A typical Ed classic regarding the much discussed credit card for rental car insurance:

You don't know the financial situation of the people giving advice, nor should you. Undoubtedly some have all three cards, could put the price of the whole demolished car on one, and keep on traveling on the same card without having to drag the others out of their pocket.

I learned a lot in a very short time from this good fellow...

Although blunt, I never perceived Ed's posts as mean spirited or nasty.

We all got great advice from him.

Oh, Ed.

The 'gentleman' part threw me ;-)

I'm sure he's off during somewhere, adventuring...perhaps in a Speedo...

I am guessing he went off to make more Dos Equis commercials.

I loved Ed. I never interpreted his responses as attacks. I miss him.

I'm curious why this question is posted under Trip Reports?

It's been a year since he posted. Unfortunately I think if he hasn't responded to queries by now, he's not going to - for whatever reason. I miss him too. He had so much knowledge about off the beaten path regions.

I would hesitate to use the word gentleman in the same sentence. I had a love/hate relationship with his posts!

I think he has indicated to someone that he will not be back here. He's moved on.

I never thought Ed was attacking anyone. He could be gruff. But he went out of his way to be helpful, answering some questions on this forum that no one else could have answered. He'd been everywhere, literally. He was especially helpful about hiking in Wales.

I miss him, too. I sent him a private message in July of 2014 to thank him for his delightful blend of knowledge, wit and sarcasm and he replied "Sometimes the nutty questions just beg for a goofy answer".
