The next day and the day after, were full of wedding events. The day following the wedding we headed by bus and train to Bletchley Park for 3.5 hour visit to this museum. It was fascinating and I’m still in doubt as to how exactly they were able to decode the messages. We could have spent more time there. We took the train back to St Albans and had dinner in town.
The next day was the last leg of our trip to London. Given the prices of train tickets, our luggage and multiple transfers we took an Uber directly to our Hotel – the Hyatt Place in East London on Whitechapel Road. The hotel seems very new and our family room was again spacious.
On our first day in London we walked from our hotel to the river and happened upon the St Katherine’s dock area grabbing a pint and a snack at the wonderful looking Charles Dickens Inn. We headed back to our hotel and re-grouped before taking the tube – two blocks from the hotel – to Buckingham Palace and working our way to Westminster, a relaxing pint on Parliament Street and a shopping excursion to Covent Garden. We then had Indian for dinner at Masala Zone before grabbing a cab back to the hotel.
The next day we headed back to Covent Garden to finish up some shopping, walked around the Seven Dials area just past Covent Garden before making our way to Selfridge’s. We’d been to Harrod’s before so wanted to see Selfridge’s and have tea. We did some poking around Oxford Street before meeting some family for dinner at the Drake & Morgan near King’s Cross.
Our final day in London started with a 9 am ticket to the Tower of London. We entered and headed straight to the Crown Jewels and taking the rest of the Tower in over the next few hours. We had lunch at a Wetherspoons near the Tower before catching the Tube and a train out to Cambridge for the afternoon. We had a nice walk and punting ride along the river. What a charming town and campus. Train and cab back to our hotel with a drink on the rooftop bar to cap off the night.
