Fort George near Inverness

In a visit to Inverness in Scotland I was looking for new places to visit and discovered Fort George. It is listed on Explorer Pass and I found it to be a fabulous place to tour. The construction started in 1748, just two years after the Jacobite revolt. The fort is still used by the British army still uses it was a post for the Highlanders regiment. I’m a big fan of Rick Steves travel books and think Fort George should be added to the Scotland book.

It's proper handy if your day includes Culloden and Clava Cairns too. Of course saying that, I didn't go when I was up that way earlier this year. I haven't been since I was a child, but definitely worth inclusion in any guide book.

Yes, the Culloden battlefield and Clava Cairns are both definitely worth a visit and nearby. If going to the battlefield, be sure to take the tour. Also close by is Cawdor Castle. See both the castle and gardens.
