Hello all
Question, we have a day and 1/2 in Florence ....which museum to explore? taking into acount we are not huge museum fans...Accademia OR the Uffizi?
You might want to consider the smaller, less crowded museums, particularly the Bargello and the Museo San Marco. The first is a sculpture museum, formerly a prison, while the second had been a monastery - Fra Angelico painted frescos in each of the cells. With no worries about long lines, you would have time for both.
If you are choosing between Accademia and Uffizi - choose Accademia. It is much smaller and easier to see everything in a short period of time. The Uffizi can easily eat 1/2 day or more. Rick Steves has an audio tour of the Academia as well, so I would recommend downloading the app/tour as well as the walking tours of Florence.
I also agree with Inbsig's recommendations as good sites to see. Make sure you get a reservation for the Accademia or Uffizi. You will waste valuable time waiting in line to buy a ticket otherwise.
Rick's self-described "crude tips" and his Audio Tours (or the printed version in the Florence book) are meant to help you see the highlights but avoid museum burnout. While aficionados would spend longer, Rick's suggested tour time is 2 hours for the Uffizi and 30-60 minutes for the Accademia. Add a little cushion of time for check-in, security, and crowd control, even with museum reservations.
See the David at the Accademia!
Awesome tips! thank you.....feel better ......the Accademia it is......helloooo David!
