February 7-day trip-Ideas please? Tuscany? Paris? Rome

Hi all-new to this forum. Husband and I are planning a trip for the first week in February. Due to husbands work-we kinda have to work with his schedule and this just when we could get away. The last three years we have taken a tropical beach vacay (Hawaii/Mexico). This is our trip a-year without the kiddos. We will be going to Mexico with our kids over Thanksgiving so I thought we could do something different. We live in Eastern Wash State so Europe is def a long flight. We have from Saturday-Saturday. Would It be worth it to do Paris or Rome? We've been to both spots but only briefly. I'd love to try Tuscany-but again, our time is limited.

Any suggestions? Where would be a good spot in early February?

Weather-wise, the warmest spot would probably be southern Spain. The three most popular destinations there are Seville, Cordoba and Granada. Your time is pretty short to try to squeeze in all three of the places, though. A city break in a place like Paris or Rome would be easier to manage in the allotted time. You'd likely have less-raw weather in Rome.

I don't know what the small towns in Tuscany would be like in February.

In 2005 I was in Rome, Florence and the Amalfi Coast in the 2nd or 3rd week in February. It was shirtsleeve weather in Florence and in Sorrento I purchased a sweater. I wore an all weather London Fog with no lining in both places when needed. I was comfortable and we had a great trip. I can't recall Rome's weather as we kind of hurried through it, but you get the idea.

Personally, I think Paris is wonderful any time of year.

You can look on Wikipedia for any city and the average temperature lows and highs, precipitation days, precipitation amounts and other weather is shown month by month. We were once in Venice in February and about froze our tails off.
Seven days ends up being only 5 days as the first and last days of any long trip are wasted. And if you move from city to city, that day is wasted. With 7 days, you would do best to pick one place.

Sat-Sat with a long transatlantic flight at both ends means only 5 usable days on the ground. And daylight hours will still be short. You just won't have time to traipse around Tuscany. Pick one city- either Rome or Paris have ample sites to fill that time (although Paris would get my vote). Just pack for the weather forecast.

You have time for one city only , I prefer Paris , but I would choose time for the likely better weather .

Agree with the wise consensus above. Your "7 day trip" yields you at best 5 days in Europe - essentially, you're going to Europe for a long weekend. That should help keep things in perspective.

Flying to Europe is qualitatively different from flying to Cabo or Maui. Flying to Cabo or Maui can be accomplished easily in a day (even from Spokane). Europe is on the other side of the planet - requires a long overnight flight to get there (for you, coming from Eastern WA, even more so), and crossing 10 time zones, you will arrive pretty wiped out. That takes it's toll on you. Not that big a deal if you're off for a 3 week trip. Much greater impact if you're only going to be there 5 days.

You should pick one location.

Personally, I'm not so sure it's actually worth flying all the way to Europe for what amounts to "a long weekend" - given the cost and effort required just to get there and get back, I think it's more cost-effective to defer a Europe trip (blasphemy around here, I know) until you can do it justice by staying more than a couple weeks and get more bang for your buck. If it were me, I'd head to someplace warm and tropical in the western hemisphere.

If it's absolutely gotta be Europe, even for a quick drive-by, in February, I'd look at Majorca, or the Canary Islands (kinda in Europe) - although those warm spots come with even longer flights. Or just keep it simple and join the crowds in Barcelona.

would it be worth it to do a Paris or Rome?

Why not? You've been before and want to go again. That is the norm for the vast majority.

What would be a good spot in February?

Go with the one you prefer. I would go with Rome since I am tired of Paris. And from a Midwest weather perspective Rome would be a nice break.

We have been to Rome in February and the weather was pleasant (light jacket only). The weather would probably be better than it would be in Paris.

Thank you for the responses! I guess I implied that I wanted to do a multi-city trip. I know that wouldn’t work with my time frame. I also do realize how far away Europe is-as someone was trying to explain-lol. In my opinion I do think Paris or Rome are still in the running. I wish we could extend our timeframe or change to later in the year-but this may be it for what we can do next year. Doing something like Tuscany or the Amalfy Coast would just be too much travel to all the smaller towns.

I’m hoping to do around a 10-day England/Scotland trip in a few years for our anniversary-we definitely won’t be going in February!

We went to France last February. We went to Arles (be wary if the Mistral winds!), Nice and Paris over 10 days. Picked up a car in Arles and dropped it off in Nice. There was snow on the ground in Paris when we arrived. We had a great time! With only 5 days on the ground, I would pick one city. Paris is a great option as is Rome. From Rome, you could do a day trip to Florence (train is only 90 minutes each way). We took a D-Day tour to Normandy as a day trip from Paris and that worked out well. As others have said, just check the weather forecast and plan accordingly!

I'm not a cold weather fan, so I would vote for Rome. Milder weather and a lot of sights to see there. I think Paris is better to see in warmer weather. Just my opinion. Enjoy.

I would pick Rome as a base. The average temperatures of Rome in February are in the mid to upper 50s that time of year. From Rome, do Day Trips to Assissi , Orvieto, and Ostia Antica . Then explore the city sigts of Rome thereafter. That should make your week great. Weather will be much colder in Paris in February.

For a week, Rome and/or Paris would work. Weather is likely to be a bit warmer in Rome, but both places have plenty of indoor activities if it is too chilly. Given you have only a week, I would limit it to one location and save Tuscany for another trip.

We had the same choice, just a different time (December) and opted for London given that we just got back from Rome in June. We chose London because we got a good deal on a flight, they have great Christmas markets, and plenty to do during the holidays. Our second choice would have been Paris.

All things being equal, I'd go to Paris. But all things aren't equal in February. Paris could be cold, damp and dreary. Rome is much more likely to be sunny and almost certainly warmer. I've been to Rome 3 times in February in recent years and it has indeed been mostly sunny and warm enough to walk around often without a jacket. Florence is often cold and grey in February.

Another great destination in February is Barcelona.
