There’s a few of you wondering why I haven’t written about Budapest yet. I’ve only been back in the US a week. I’m the seasoned solo female traveler that wrote about a sort of inexplicable trepidation regarding Budapest. A few months ago I put my ego aside and asked for the forum’s assistance. THE Budapest forum individual - Mr. E - provided a level of kindness that made one of my best trips EVER possible. There were 2 other forum participants that were invaluable to me, also. Thank you! Mr. E met me at the train station and walked (my choice) me to my Airbnb, in the RAIN!! I was really a total stranger to him and yet there he was, on time, no judgement (well he might’ve been thinking - oh, HERE’S the wimp…), polite and gracious. Somehow getting me over that hump made all the difference in the world. I was also encouraged to contact him if I needed anything. WHAT?! I loved Budapest and plan on returning perhaps this fall, thanks to Mr. E and the forum. I am forever grateful.
From what I’ve read in the forum, he does read like a gentleman. Hopefully one day we’ll get to experience his kindness first hand.
LOVE BUDAPEST! Next time go and eat a meal at the INCREDIBLE Italian restaurant on the Danube right across from the huge town market……right on the river……SO GOOD
I love this:). Kindness does make such a difference.
My wife and I can attest as well that Mr E is a kind and gracious man, very giving of his time and energy to welcome wandering visitors to his lovely adopted city.
I have never met or even corresponded with Mr E but from what I consistently read here on the forum over and over tells me what a kind, generous man he is. So glad he was there to help you and that you had a great trip!
Already planning a return so soon--that is the sneaky magic that Budapest works on a person! I'm so glad your trip went well, and Mr E offered me very helpful advice for my first trip there in 2014--I was leery of arriving at Keleti (fairly new traveler at that time)--and thanks to his detailed instructions on where to find the ATM and how to get a taxi it worked perfectly. I'm still sad I missed a chance to meet him at Kadarka on one of my return visits in 2017.
Thank you Judith et al. I am at a loss for words. I am fortunate to have you among my friends. I look forward to seeing you again.
G-d bless and keep all of you safe till we cross paths again.
I had the pleasure of dining with Mr. E over lunch back in December - there is even more to him in person than what you see here on the forum. It would be interesting to find a way to quantify the influence he's had with trips to Budapest over the last few years.
We had the pleasure of spending some time with Mr. E last September and agree with everyone else that he is kind and helpful.
