Edinburgh to Harrogate

Thanks to the Tour forum I felt motivated to drive from Edinburgh to Harrogate. I opted for the in-car GPS in the Mercedes rental car and it did a great job getting me around the round abouts. It did seem to "pick" a route for me, and I just took it. The first hour out of Edinburgh was on a single carriage route, then it joined up with a motorway and took me past Carlisle. I stopped in Penrith and then set the GPS to take me through Barnard Castle --such a cute little town.

That is interesting that it didn't just take you down the A1- probably the most obvious route.

But rather down the A702 to Abingdon, then the M74 and M6 to junction (exit) 40 then the A66, A1 and A61.

There are many versions of that route- like the more scenic A702/A701 to join the M74 at Moffatt, or stay on the M6 to junction 36 then the A65/A59 route to Harrogate.

Or junction 37 of the M6, then the A684/A6108/A61 to Harrogate through the middle of the Yorkshire Dales.

Ah…Barnard Castle. A place that lives in infamy.
(Google “Dominic Cummings and his ride to Barnard Castle).
