We needed to relax because our next stop was Zermatt Switzerland where we hiked in the Matterhorn region. Hiking down from Gornergrat to Zurich took us about 6 hours to do 10 miles and boy were my knees aching. But I would definately do it again. The scenery was beautiful. Zermatt was very beautiful and of course touristy. We stayed in Tasch and took the shuttle train again because of free parking included with our room. The next day was a leisurely drive back to Zurich.
In summary, 17 days to do what we did was pushing it a bit. We really could have used an extra day in each destination, especially Paris, Cinque Terre and Rome. But that would have added to the cost of an already expensive trip. We really ate out of the grocery stores when we could. The food in Swiss restaurants was just crazy. How about $9.00 for a Big Mac. Italy was a bit better if you are happy with pasta. In France I was happy with croissants with chocolate chips. Yummy.
