Don’t go to Pompeii or Herculaneum without Pina!

My husband and I hired Rick Steves recommended guide Dr. Anna Maria “Pina” Esposito for 2 days while in the Naples area. We spent 6 hours with her each day. The first day was a Naples city tour and a half day at the Archaeological Museum. The 2nd day was spent at Pompeii and Herculaneum. She is incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining, and passionate about her subject matter. I felt as though I was attending the most fascinating personal tutoring session on the history and archeology of the Naples area. She tied the objects and information at the Archeological Museum in Naples to the excavations at Pompeii/ Herculaneum in a way that I could never forget. Absolutely 2 amazing days…..highly recommend…

I’m not sure what her hourly rate was because we hired her for 2 six hour days. I think she was about $1000 for 12 hours. It was money well spent. We’ve hired other private guides in other locales & she was a notch above all.

My husband and I were just in Pompeii and stayed for 4 nights. An easy walk to Pompeii excavations from our hotel Bosco de Medici. We hired Dr. Giuseppina Esposito (aka Pina) for a half day private tour of Pompeii and then she arranged a driver for day 2 to Herculaneum and the Naples Museum. She was very informative as she has 2 PhD's and is an active archeologist. There is no other way to see both Pompeii or Herculaneum without her as your guide. She provided so much valuable information that we would have missed if we just walked it on our own. She also arranged our entrance tickets and suggested we get the "Time flexible" tickets which worked out well for us. She truly made the trip a highlight of our visit to Italy.

Her contact info is [email protected] and she is very responsive and provides extensive details to help you tailor your experience. Prices vary based on your needs.

Totally agree with the positive comments about Pina. I hired her for 2 days when I was in Naples - my first solo post Covid trip - and she absolutely made the experience for me. Would not have visited the Herculaneum without her recommendation and I found it even more fascinating than Pompeii.

This is great to know and appreciate the recommendation. One of the many regions in Italy I have not visited yet.
