Dad and Diane"s excellent Danube adventure Day 2

As I mentioned, this was only our second group tour and we decided to lean-in to it. At first, i thought the optional tour to a Hungarian folk dance show and dinner would be the height of tourist tack. But we decided to go for it. First, it was the first group activity offered and we wanted to set the right tone and meet people. So this was a chance to do so. Second, it meant we had a plan for dinner, transportation and what was easier than just getting on the bus. It was terrific!
The restaurant was out a ways from Budapest and the short drive there took us over the Danube and I enjoyed sightseeing the neighborhoods. We passed an a retirement community on the way and dad and teased each other about whether we should stop in.
The guide explained that the restaurant had been a villa for the Communist leaders to entertain in in the prior time. It was beautiful. We were greeted with a very strong type of Hungarian 'vodka'. The food was good, the show a lot of fun and we ended up sitting with a nice couple from our group who became our dinner buddies on the cruise part. the show and music was lovely. the best part was when the band played some Hungarian folk tunes and the large tour group next to us started singing along. then the band played Danny Boy and the Irish group on the other side sang along. then they played Edleweiss and the Americans sang. then we all got up and started dancing. the ride back rewarded us with the view of the Chain Bridge , Parliament and the Castle lit up - stunning. Moral of the story: Sometimes its good just to be the tourist you are, give in and let fun happen.

Yes, awaiting more! I like your advice about tourists. We went to a medieval banquet at a castle in Ireland that was tourist heaven. But, guess what, we had fun!

Diane, enjoying the report. Just a suggestion, you may want to keep your report all under one title. You can always come back to this report and add a reply to input your new information. That way your trip stays in one posting/location for everyone to follow. Instead of searching up and down the daily postings from other posters.
