D-Day Tour

My wife and I, along with another couple visited the Normandy region of France in June this year. We wanted to take a D-Day tour since at least two of us are big history buffs. We found Chris Emery of VisitDDay.com and signed up for a single-day tour. We chose to have Chris ride with us since we had a large rental vehicle. Let me just say that hiring Chris was the perfect thing to do. Chris is a former Sergeant Major in the Royal Marines and a military historian.

Chris met us bright and early at our lodging. Over the next 10 hours Chris lead us to Colleville American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Utah Beach, Sainte-Mere-Eglise (where we stopped at a little place for a baguette lunch), and Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. Chris told stories about many of the graves at Colleville, introduced us to a veteran who was there for the remembrance. At the beaches Chris described in detail the activities and actions that took place at each. He told stories about how fortune and mistakes both played a significant role in the allied successes.

Since we were there just a couple days before the anniversary, there we reenactments in process everywhere. This just led to a much better appreciation to everything Chris was telling us about.
Very early on in the day even the "non-military history buffs" were completely engrossed in the stories and descriptions. Chris addressed each of the participant interests and made sure that everyone was satisfied. Chris was very personable, friendly, and engaging.
After dropping Chris off at the train, we all patted ourselves on the back for doing such a great job in hiring Chris.
We would definitely recommend Chris to anyone of any age or interest to engage Chris.

Glad you had a great tour. I think hiring a private guide is definitely the way to go at Normandy. I used Paul Woodadge for a 2-day tour. He was also excellent.
