Cruise ship stop...Seville

Any suggestions on how best to see Seville from cruise ship? Don't know whether to try to do it on our own or take a shore excursion through cruise line.

Neither Seville nor Florence is close to the sea. It's about a 2-hour drive from Cadiz (where the ship probably docks) to Seville. Going by train will take about the same (1-1/2 hours on the train plus time to get to/from the station). That's at least 4 hours of the day. Are you docking in Livorno for Florence? The train takes over an hour and up to 2 hours (depending on which train you get) each way. The drive is nearly two hours.

As the responder said about Rome - the best thing is to find your sailing's "roll call" thread on cruisecritic.com and try to join a small private tour that someone else is putting together.

You really cannot see Seville from a cruise port. You need to repost this question in the appropriate section.

We went to Seville as a day trip from the port of Cadiz. We used Spain Day Tours, also called Top Day Tours. Everything went as planned. I wouldn't say anything about the tour was particularly fabulous, but they provided what was promised (bus, guide, free time). It was a long day, so knowing that, we deliberately didn't plan any additional long day tours on port days (stuck to activities in the port city). I would recommend you choose only one or two ports to do the big day-long excursions.

You've had multiple suggestions to get over to Cruise Critic and check out the roll call. The tour I did was organized by someone on our Roll Call (his booking for our group ended up filling several bus loads). Roll Calls can be a terrific source of information; my only advice would be to wade carefully into how involved you get into it.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I realize the cruise ship stops in Cadiz and it is a ways from Seville. The cruise line offers a tour or a transfer to Sevilla. We are just not sure if we would be better off taking the tour or the transfer which is half the price and trying o see things on our own. My husband and I were in Sevilla many years ago but did not see everything, mostly the Jewish quarter.

Does rick have a walking tour? So far I have not been able to find it on th audio Europe app.

I have tried to find something on cruise critic but was not successful.

Also, as a newbie to this forum, I am not sure where I should have posted this question. I thought I was in the correct place in Spain.

You didn't post it in Spain (where it should be) but posted it in Trip Reports. That is why I suggested you move it as you might get more responses. Let me expand my first response. Seville is a long ways from Cadiz with several hours in a bus at the end of the day. There are several interesting places nearer Cadiz - i.e. - , Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez de la Frontera - that are easily reached by public transit. The ship will dock within walking distance of both the train and bus depots. You can take the train to Jerez and bus to Arcos.

What time to you have to be back on board? If it is an early evening departure (7,8,9pm), then I think a private tour to Seville could work since you would have adequate time to return to Cadiz. The risk you always run with a cruise ship is that they will wait for their tours to return but you are on your own with a private tour. Fifteen years ago we were on a cruise in Cherbourg on a cruise tour. On returning to the port, something happen, all roads to the port were absolutely jammed from about five miles out. The police escorted the cruise ship buses through a back gate and finally got us back to the ship about the time we were suppose to sail. The ship waited around about an hour because of the unusual circumstances but still many of the private tours didn't make it back before the ship had to sail. I know people were left behind. So we were are always very careful with our time line when we are touring on our own off the ship.
