Creating a travel slideshow

I am wanting to create a travel slideshow with photos of our recent trip to Europe. I have been working with iPhoto and am not too pleased with my results. There are things I can't seem to do with it, at least not efficiently. I think it would be great to be able to include maps to show where we traveled. Has anyone used a website for this, preferably free, that they are happy with it?

I wasn't sure where to post this question, but hoping someone might have a suggestion.

Thanks,
Donna

I used Aperture to create a slideshow of my last trip. I was pleased with the results, and, most importantly, my mother (who funded the trip) and our other traveling companions were absolutely delighted with the results.

However, Aperture gets to be a lot of work when you start tweaking the transitions and sync'ing music tracks. I sank a lot of hours into the project. The music tracks, in particular, were a big time drain. Every time I added, deleted, or tweaked the timing of an image, I had to re-sync every music track. If I had it to do over again, I would opt for iMovie (free, I think) or maybe even Final Cut Pro ($$$).

Basically, the more control you want, the bigger the learning curve and/or the pricetag. Choose your poison.

donna,

If you're able to use a website, there are free photo storage sites that offer slideshow capability. If you don't mind paying a small yearly fee (about $40), one site that I'd highly recommend is SmugMug (odd name but it's a great website). Not only will that provide secure backup storage for your photos, but the slideshow will be viewable anywhere in the world (that has an internet connection).

That won't provide music sync'ed with the photos, but I'm sure there's a way to do that.

Hi Donna,
Look at Rick Steves site & find the scrapbook section. It may give you some ideas and some really nice presentions by former tour members ( there are several years posted by country). Rick has been recomending using the Weebly, a free site--there is a training section, most of which is up to date & i have posted questions to the site mgrs and gone one on one with question and answers that have helped in the past.

Donna,

If you have a version of iMovie that is from 2011 or newer, you should have the map tradition feature. There should be a icon that looks like a globe next to the icons for music, text, photos, transitions. Once you pull it up you can customize by typing in a specific city. If the particular town is not listed, then I have used the closest town that is a little bigger.

Best of luck,

Scott

Back to iPhoto. I have iPhoto 9.5.1--in Slideshow click on Themes and choose Places. It will help you identify locations. Otherwise, I have made a screen print of a map from the internet, and then used that as a slide in the slideshow. Good luck.
