The walk from Cortona town to Bramasole is absolutely worth it — but beware of a potential trap. Both the Rick Steves guidebook and Google maps app suggest a shorter trail that avoids walking on the road all the way. However there is now a gate blocking the entrance to Bramasole from the trail. The gate does not appear on the app nor is it mentioned in the guidebook. At this point of the trail you have only two options — continue up a very steep bank through terraces (virtually impassable if the ground is at all damp) or retrace most of your steps to the road. Just forget the trail. Road is easily done and provides plenty of vistas etc.
