If you are traveling in the Cinque Terre area in September, be on the lookout for the Festival Internazionale di Musica “Cinque Terre.” We enjoyed this six-day concert series in 2011 and then again in 2013 (September 19-24). Brochures can be picked up throughout the area. The concert series, each beginning at 9:15 pm, is held in various churches in the Cinque Terre towns. The music is of the highest quality (organ, pianoforte, voice, etc.). The speaking (introductions, etc.) is usually in Italian. Attendance overall, by both Italians and visitors, has always been relatively modest for such grand music presented in beautiful, unique settings.
Also, we happened to pick up material from the La Spezia train station in 2013 regarding free guided tours of Monterosso, Riomaggiore, Vernazza, and Manarola. Phone or email reservations were requested and could be made a few hours ahead of time. The guide met us at the train station and spoke in Italian and English. Of the three tours we took, we were the only ones on one and were joined by a few more people on the others. Some of the tours were in sync with the Internazionale di Musica (described above).
Also, in 2013, we picked up material from the La Spezia train station on “September: Impressions in the Cinque Terre Park.” These were free guided tours of the trails of the Cinque Terre during harvest and ran from September 4-29. Phone or email reservations were requested.
