Stayed in Manarola one night in a nice, overpriced room.. With a view but no place to sit out and a major hike up to almost the top hauling baggage. Decided to stay in CT 2 more nights instead of rushing to Venice... La Spezia was the only station with baggage storage, so we hauled our bags there, then trained to Monterosso where it turned out not to be hard at all to find a room.. Don't know if that's because of the flood or May is still early there.. Found a nice little apartment in the old town with 2 bedrooms for $110/ night.. Could have slept one or two more in the living room. The owner had the gift shop to the right of Bar Centrale with a sign in the window.. They have done an amazing job cleaning up and rebuilding, I forgot it had been devastated and just thought they were sprucing up for the season. Also should have planned better here, did not do well buying the 2 day CT card, ended up only hiking a little and would have been cheaper buying train tickets daily. The boat to Portovenere was fabulous and wished we had left time to do it round trip and then taken the train back to Hike. The castle was closed for some undisclosed reason at 3 pm on a Friday which was quite a disappointment.
