Can you stay in old part of city with car. If not, is parking available close by so that you can walk to old rethrmno
Hi Gayle — To have a better chance of getting an answer, I’d re-create this question in the Greece forum, and then delete this one.
There are lots of car parks but what you need to know is whether you can park over night in them. We only parked during the day so don’t know.
But I would ask your hotel or apartment host this question.
Gayle, Charlene is right. This is posted in the wrong forum and because of that, many Greece travelers will not see it. Just post a new thread in the Greece forum that you can find here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/greece
Two summers ago I was there with friends and we had 2 cars. There are parking lots near the city center though they get busy. You may have to drive around a while to find a spot. We did park overnight for 2 to 3 nights. When we left, we drove close to our lodging to pick up luggage/people. It is much easier to drive in old town early in the morning which is when we departed.
In September we spent two nights in Rethymno, staying at Avli, which is in the old town. We parked our rental car in a public lot just outside of the old town area. Our walk to the hotel was 5 minutes. The lot was open 24 hours per day, and manned. It is where Avli had suggested that we park. I think the lot was called Fortezza Parking (because it's close to the fort). The cost was 20€ per 24 hour day, I think, but it may have been less than that. To our surprise, the hotel reimbursed us for it.
Our Hotel was right across from the beach and a 5 minute walk to Old Town. The hotel supplied us with street parking right outside of the hotel. Absolutely loved our time there
