Bugs in Iceland?

I have read that there are no mosquitoes in Iceland but that there may be a lot of bugs midges and black flies near Myvatn .
Has anyone had experience with the bugs Suggest netting or bug repellant?
Thanks

What part of the year?

I've been to Iceland a few times and never had a problem. Too cold.

Some say the mosquito is Minnesota's state bird. I have experience. . .I saw no evidence of bugs in Iceland

You are correct. No mosquitos in Iceland, but midges are in abundance around Myvatn around July. A headnet is a good idea there. I wouldn't bother with repellant though. The worst we encountered was at Goddafoss, but only in the parking lot. Near the waterfall itself, we had no issue.

There will still be the midges around Myvatn that time of year. That was the same time when we were in Goddafoss/Myvatn.

If you are going to spend any amount of time there, then I would. We bought ours off of Amazon and they are tiny and take up no room. You can also buy them at any gas station in the area, but I don't know the cost.

I was all over Iceland last August/September. I don't remember any bug problems anywhere, though for some reason the bees liked my daughter! They didn't sting or swarm her, but it seemed like everywhere we went there would be a bee bouncing around near her. Very strange, lol.
