1st time visit. 6 days was a good length for us. Saw what we planned to see without being rushed. Hot,but no rain.
Stayed at the Ibis Centrum. Very satisfied there. Asked for and received Room 812.Large,very clean, and quiet. Very nice and courteous staff all around. Excellent buffet breakfast .Kept us through all day. Getting a mini fridge in the room cost about $10.00 a day. Sort of a bummer, but as hot as it was, having cold drinks was worth it. A/C in the room was adequate.
Cab ride into town was easy and relaxing. We used the 7 day travel pass for getting around the city. Very practical. The $ goes a long way there. Safe city to visit. Use common sense, and you'll be fine.
Restaurants were plentiful and not expensive.
I am curious. Why did you ask for room 812?
We were in Budapest for 8 days in April, and we really enjoyed the place. We find it to be a very affordable city with the Dollar/Euro exchange rate right now.
We were also able to fly from Budapest back to Boston for $286 one way--a bargain.
It was located in the back of the hotel, so street noise was almost nothing. And it was quite a bit larger than most rooms. Somebody on Trip Advisor had used it and was impressed. They were right.
I was in Budapest last fall for the first time. I was there for 3 days to visit some friends from my hometown. It's a great city, and there is history around every corner. I read Twelve Days: The Story of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution by Victor Sebestyen before traveling there and was constantly passing places mentioned in the book. I stayed at the art'otel Budapest on the Danube in a room with a river (and Parliament) view. The hotel was great.
Can you give an idea as to what you did each day? Did you visit the baths? Did you do a walking tour? Did you do any daytrips? We'll be there as a family of five next July and I'm trying to decide if we really have time to do a Danube bend daytrip as well as a daytrip around Lake BAnube. (visiting for 6 nights) We have our apartment booked but that's it (near Opera). Thanks!
