Budapest -- Excellent Tour Guide recommended by Rick

We used Andrea Makkay Private tour service and she gave us a guide by the name of Zsuzsa Gonda. She was knowledgeable, entertaining, and so full of information and stories. We did 1/2 day in Buda by van and then 1/2 day in Pest walking. I highly recommend her!!! You will not be disappointed. [email protected]

We took the Free Walking Tour of Budapest where guides work for tips. The guides are licensed and excellent--and cheaper when touring in a group. The same tour outfit is in every major European city.
We also sign up for their nightlife tour or pub crawl four that night. It is a great way to find the local bars and restaurants that are off the beaten path. And the people on their nightlife tours are from all over the world and a quite lively bunch.

I found the Danube river cruise a great way to spend a relaxing evening in Budapest. There was lively music, the goulash was excellent, and Hungarian wines were potent. . The lights of the city, palaces, cathedrals, bridges were a marvelous backdrop. I especially liked the cimballon (sp?) music. This Hungarian zither is a sizable instrument. The performer even let several tourist try their skill with the double hammers in each hand. We also got a lesson in folk dancing, but we proved rather inept. There was much laughter.

I was in Budapest a year ago and also had Zsuzsa Gonda as my guide. She was wonderful. We had some family ties to Budapest and she did some investigation on her own and found a couple of places to go that weren’t on the normal tour but were extremely relevant to us. We were very grateful to her.
