I just need to praise Rick Steves for his thorough and most helpful information on choosing a Rail Pass. My sister and I ed the 2nd class Brit Rail flexi-pass since we were traveling 4 days in 15 days...we ordered it no problem via Rick Steves's website. We are in our 50s and wanted the trip to hold no surprises so we took Rick's advice on getting reservations in advance (once we got to London) for our travel in England and Scotland during the busy travel month of August 2013. We were so glad we did! We traveled to several cities/towns without a hitch and would definitely travel in the UK again this way. We also got an oyster card for use on the tube in London and that, too, is a "no-brainer." We figured everything out easily, the pass was extremely convenient, and we got our money back at the end of our visit. We now feel empowered to take more rail and subway trips!
