Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park, a 45-minute train ride north of London, may be in the latest Great Britain Guidebook. Mine's a few years old. Anyway, I recommend it highly if you're at all interested in the Enigma encryption machine the Nazis used during WW2 and how the code breakers at Bletchley Park broke the encryption, decoded most of the Nazi electronic transmissions, saved countless lives, and perhaps shortened the war by as much as two years. You can now tour the Park, once a country estate, and learn all about the process, one of the most closely guarded secrets of WW2. Adjacent is a computer science museum with the world's first electronic computer, the Colossus, created by Alan Turing and his colleagues to assist in breaking Nazi encrypted teletype messages. Bletchley Park is worthy addition to the Guidebook if it isn't already there. Note: If you want to go there from London, the trains leave from Euston Station. Be sure to get a train to Bletchley, not Milton Keynes. If you get a (faster) train to Milton Keynes, you have to backtrack about 5 miles to Bletchley Park.
