After a wonderful Best of France in 15 Days tour, we spent a week on Savoir Vivre, a barge which cruises the Bourgenon Canal in Burgundy. This trip was more expensive, but worth every penny! A few things distinguish it from all the other choices. First, it is small, only 4 cabins. Second, every night you get off the barge for a standout dinner in a local restaurant, rather than having a chef on board. Third, the hostess, captain and guide are delightful and made us feel like friends.Other high points: terrific excursions to very local sights, on board lunches which are terrific and prepared by a local village chef, incredibly well designed cabins with very comfortable beds and a good shower plus lots of storage, and a great pace which combines drifting through lovely scenery with excursions in a very comfortable mini bus. If you are thinking about a canal barge trip, please check out Savior Faire. We found them them on the Untours website but the other travelers used Barge Ladies.
