We just spent a delightful week at the Steves recommended Balestrand Hotel in Balestrand Norway (info@balestrand.com). As the Steves guidebook mentioned, Unni-Marie, Eric and Victoria were wonderful hosts. We had a nice, clean, room with a spectacular Fjord view. We avoided the normal Norway in a Nutshell madness and opted to just get to a hotel and spend a few days exploring by foot, ferry and a one day car rental. All activities were wonderful.
We also rented a nice VW Golf from Kjetl Nesse, +47 412-48253, and had a wonderful day driving a route recommended by Unni-Marie.
The hotel is not fancy, but nice, clean and perfect if you have forgotten what the overwhelming sound of quite is. We are leaving relaxed and refreshed! Highly recommended!!!!!
