In October my family spent a beautiful three days at La Falconara agriturismo near Montepulciano. Even before we arrived I felt like we were coming to visit old friends as Alex and I had an active email conversation about the area, things we might like to do, etc. When we did arrive there was a moment of confusion because he had not understood that we were a family of four not two. Without a moment's hesitation, however, he resolved things and settled us into a comfortable and spacious apartment. Each day he drew up a complete itinerary for us including our special areas of interest. His restaurant recommendations were great, and he made reservations for us to make sure we were well- accommodated. But above all his sharing of his deep knowledge of Italian culture and especially food was a highlight of our trip. (By the way I only mention Alex as his wife Ingrid was ill with a cold while we were there, but she is an equally charming person).
The location of la Falconara was a plus -only five minutes out of Montepulciano but well off the road, very quiet and surrounded by vineyards and places to walk. My only regret is that we did not spend longer there; it is a great location from which to visit much of eastern Tuscany.
