In 2019, I visited Kranj in Slovenia. I stayed in a room above a restaurant that had been open since 1852. It was a simple room. And it came with a simple spider. At night, I would crawl into bed, look up, and see him hanging out on the ceiling directly above my head.
He was not threatening at all -- he seemed like he was just watching over me. He felt like a friend... or maybe a guardian angel in spider form. By the time I woke in the morning, he was gone.
On my next to last day in Kranj, it was going to be a little warm that day and there was no prediction or rain. So, I left the window open. When I returned, there was an aggressive looking spider hanging out on the handle of the window. He had made a considerable web. I tried to chase him away, but he would not leave. I'm not proud of this, but I crushed him so that I could close the window. That night, there was no spider on the ceiling. My heart sank. I apparently had murdered my friend. I was sad.
