A Spectacular Wine Tour, Taormina, Sicily

My husband and I spent 12 days in Sicily in October, 2015. We happened upon the best day tour we have ever taken in our years of travel. We were waiting for a restaurant that we had found on trip advisor to open and wandered into a little travel agency looking for something a little special to do the for our 41st anniversary the next day. They suggested a wine/olive oil tasting and we were a little hesitant and we are not big drinkers. The young lady said this it the best tour that they sell and the sommelier from the restaurant Principe Cerami at our hotel is the guide. After a little debate, we decided to sign on the dotted line. Alessandro Malfitana presented an informative and engaging tour as he accompanied us on our journey through this beautiful wine country in the shadow of Mount Etna presenting the story with 3 vinyards and their production of wine using old and new methods. Alessandro was well versed on not only the history of wine and region. The final vineyard we visited was owned by Guido and Michela Fischetti whose main resicence is in Catania. They have painstakingly restored this vineyard to be able to show how wine was produced before the advent of machinery. The tour culminated with a meal prepared and served (with wine, of course) by Michela where we sat around the table in their home eating, drinking, conversing and laughing! It was a SPECTACULAR day!
