A few tidbits from travels to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Bergen, Amsterdam and Paris

Just a few things to share from our recent travels; first time in all cities except Paris - third time there.

The only time we used/needed cash was to buy a 2€ program at a fantastic concert at Saint Chapelle and for the pay toilet at Les Halles in Paris. I had a few euros left from our previous trip so I never went to an ATM. One cafe in Gamla Stan wanted cash for a latte so we went elsewhere. I don’t think they were too keen on serving only a latte. Tap to pay everywhere else. Pay toilets practically everywhere; generally quite clean. Tap and pay there too.

Copenhagen card was a good deal for us. Our metro use with the card was minimal.

I think it was in Bergen where we had to enter the amount we wished to pay after the amount owed showed on the payment machine screen. I assume this allows one to add a tip and/or pay part cash and part card. I would have loved to enter a lesser amount than shown but we knew eating out, and including alcohol, was pricey.

We bought two transport cards for Stockholm at the senior rate for a week. We used the available transport options A LOT.

Used our credits cards that have no foreign transaction fees to tap on and off the trams in Amsterdam. I had read that spouse and I should use different accounts/cards so we did. Very simple.

I had a few tickets remaining on my Paris Navigo cards but added to the cards using their app on my phone. Simple.

We stayed in apartments except in Bergen but we bought groceries and wine in all cities. Prices were about what we are used to in the South.

Very little mask wearing.anywhere We donned them on flights and the lengthy train ride from Copenhagen to Stockholm. Perhaps should have also worn on crowded public transport but counting on our vax and boosters doing their thing. We were experiencing mask fatigue. But we used hand sanitizer religiously.

We saw a total of 5 pair of Keens on men and women -one pair worn comfortably by my husband. I saw 3 pairs of Crocs on men in Paris who seemed to be local. Athletic type shoes, sandals, boots - you name it, we saw it. Same with clothing. During our very hot days in Paris, I saw more skin than I’d ever show. I saw one very buff and flamboyant man while in the Van Gogh Museum in cut off jean shorts that were so short in front that there must have been duct tape in use. Sorry if that is TMI. As folks on this forum regularly state concerning shoes and clothes - no one cares.

Very nice, helpful people everywhere. I had the misfortune of tripping on a curb in Copenhagen and did a full body slam on the pavement. Several people came to my rescue (I was out by myself our last afternoon). I chipped a front tooth, cut my lip, badly bruised both knees, wrists/palms, nose where sunglasses smashed into my face, and right elbow. My right arm was rather painful and useless for a bit but I soldiered on and have recovered. It was most helpful to have my personal RN along - my husband! We are both still amazed that I didn’t seem to break any bones, and I’m nearing 70! Dentist visit scheduled.

Great trip all around! Many thanks to users of this forum for so much helpful information.
