I made a short stop on Korćula at the beginning of my main trip to Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina- because flights were easier and cheaper to Dubrovnik than going straight to Podgorica. I have been promising myself a return to Korćula after spending 3 nights there in 2021, and this seemed like the perfect time.
Stayed: Apartments & Room Nina, found on booking.com. This was a nice stay - just a simple room, but with a view out onto the main restaurant street and beautiful water.
Arrived and departed: Krilo catamaran ferry from Dubrovnik port. From the airport, I walked out the door and caught the €10 airport bus to the port. It made 3 stops, the last of which was the bus station which is just a 5-10 minute walk to the ferry. I pre-purchased my ticket and showed it on my phone. I also pre-purchased my ferry tickets both ways but probably didn’t need to. I also had those on my phone.
Did: Not a lot. I arrived somewhat late for my first night and basically went to bed.
Days 1 & 2, I just walked a bit, ate dinner, and rested (I wasn’t feeling 100%).
Day 2 it rained. I got wet, dried off, and did stop for something to drink at the small place owned by family of Barbara from Brooklyn’s husband and it was nice. Ate at Konoba Marco Polo on one of the small streets that go up from the water to the Old Town square. This was a repeat place from 2021. :)
Day 3: took a wine tour I had signed up for at the TI office. It was a small group (@10) tour and was enjoyable. After getting back, I walked further around the harbor than I had been before and had a really nice dinner at Restaurant Moreska, with views from the opposite side of the harbor.
Afterwards, I attended the Moreška show (€20 - also bought at TI, but it was available at the door as well), which was a lot of fun and which Barbara also told me about. It is a 30 min show of sword dancing - elaborately choreographed sword fighting set to music (live) telling the story of two kings fighting over a girl. Moreska.hr. Preceding it was a 30 minute performance of folk music by a group of 6 men & 1 woman.
Day 4: I bought a €20 ticket (at the harbor) for the hop-on-hop-off water taxi to 3 destinations (2 different islands plus Lumbarda at the tip of Korćula island). It was absolutely gorgeous weather and the perfect beach day, so I swam at 2 of the 3 stops. You could buy a cheaper ticket for just one stop, but I had never been to any of them, so wanted to sample all of them. A boat came by every 30 minutes each direction.
Day 5: Morning ferry back to Dubrovnik and on to Montenegro! This was a really great place to get over jet lag and relax!
Lesson I am learning: that others have mentioned many times - In some of these smaller destinations, there is plenty to do that you won’t find ahead of time on the internet. Plenty of boats in the harbor and the Moreška dance performance didn’t show up online for my dates, but I found it on a sign.
