Just returned from 4 days in Budapest - added on to our GAS tour. 3 hour Railjet Vienna to Budapest. 3 Recommendations for fellow travellers.

Stayed at Opera Apartment: budpestapartmentservice.com. 2 bedroom apartment one block from the Opera house. Full kitchen, great internet and washing machine! Andy Croydon great host.

Transfer service: Silverwings.hu. Comfortable Mercedes from Keleti train station to apartment. Laszlo Markus dependable and excellent service. Credit cards accepted!

Private guide: www.privateguidebudapest.com Andrea Makkay arranged for driver and guide for the day. Excellent experience, great historians and made special arrangement to visit the village of my ancestors (Aba). No difficulty with English - flexible.

Thank you James E for your referrals. Could not have been better!

So, Bill, was it one of the "Countryside" tours that you chose or was it completely custom to get you to your ancestral village?

Hey, I know Andy too. Since it was just myself and my wife, he put us in Paty's Place. It was also 1 block from the opera and underground. We were on the street level with groceries, bakery and restaurants 1/2 block away.
Nicest bathroom we have ever had, too.

The ancestral village was completely ad-hoc. It took a bit of doing but worked out well. Our guide was surprised when we came upon a memorial plaque dedicated to my grandfather. A trip of a lifetime.

Saving this! Trying to put together a Christmas market trip to Prague and Budapest this year, and these are great ideas. Thanks!
