2 European trips 5 days apart

Going on a Danube river cruise, arrive home on a Tuesday, leave again the next Sunday for a Mediterranean cruise. Really worried about jet lag.

You'll likely be fully recovered from any jet lag after your return home, just in time to incur it again on your arrival back in Europe. Too bad you couldn't have just stayed in Europe between cruises, but at least you can get your laundry done between naps.

You need to fire your travel agent, unless the point is to rack up frequent flier miles.

Looks like you will be back just long enough to get your body clock truly confused.

Why are you going back home in between these trips? Can you change your flights into one, instead, and just stay in Europe? If not, try to stay very hydrated, and I hope your flights in this case are up in first class.

I know the wise thing to do is stay, but one trip is with family which was planned a year ago, the other trip is with my husband and we just found out in January that he had earned it through business.
I really don’t want to be away from home for a month and 2 very different trips. I also only travel with carry-ons.

I have had this happen numerous times where I return to the US for a week.

Here's what I do.....

Don't try to adjust. Let your body, and mind, stay on European time. That means when back in the US, going to bed very early and getting up in the middle of the night. Ignore your mind thinking you "should" be going to sleep and waking up at a certain time.

If you don't have work to go to work, it shouldn't be a problem.

Forget the jet lag. I've done something similar but it was 7-8 days in between trips flying in and out of SFO. I wouuldn't even take this jet lag factor into consideration in terms of going back.

In 2019, I flew home from Venice back to the U.S. from a twelve night trip with friends. I was home for less than 36 hours when my husband and I flew from Tucson to Dallas to Frankfurt to Amsterdam for two nights before going on a cruise for our anniversary. I had the option of staying in Europe and meeting my husband there but I wanted to come home. The type of clothing that I needed for the anniversary trip was different than what I brought with me on my friends trip, so that was one reason for the crazy schedule. The other was, as silly as this might seem to some, I wanted to see my two dogs. Anyway, jet lag really didn't hit me or adversely affect the anniversary trip. I hope that you have a similar experience.

Jet lag tends to be a very personal experience. I don't have much trouble with it, so I have done this sort of thing in the past, and it's been fine. But, of course, that's my experience.

If the trips are already set, then there's not much you can do about it except roll with the jet lag punches.
