Modena
We trained to Modena about noon. My sister and DH took care of all logistics to get us to the train station, due to my diminished and food poisoned state. Upon arrival in Modena, I went straight to bed and slept until the next morning. The rest was just what I needed, and we set out the next morning to enjoy exploring the town. My DH is very much into quality Italian food products, so part of the reason we decided to visit Modena was to sample and purchase balsamic vinegar. We visited several shops, and purchased quite a bit of BV to enjoy at home. Modena is a charming town, but in one day you can pretty much see and enjoy all that it has to offer. We stayed 3 nights, and had intended to day trip to Bologna for one of the days. Unfortunately, food poisoning struck my DH the second night of our visit. Seriously? We’ve not had that issue in Italy on any prior trip. We figured it was due to a kebab gone wrong that he had earlier that day. So Bologna dropped off the schedule for a second time. We were to visit Bologna in April of 2020 originally, but COVID had other plans for us. I was left wondering if we would ever make it to Bologna, might not be in the cards. So my sister and I wandered around Modena on our final day by ourselves, enjoying a nice lunch at the Albinelli market. I highly recommend visiting the market, it's similar to the Mercato Centrale in Florence, but on a much smaller scale. Also of note is that we had our best cappuccini of the trip at Sant’Agostino Bistro. I see that the bistro got poor reviews on Google, but we certainly enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for the TR, really enjoying it but sorry you both got so sick!! What a drag. Making notes about Modena for a future trip.
Yeah, stay away from the Donar shops in Modena is my best advice! Everything else about Modena is recommended.
