Dear Travelers, My plan is to base myself and my traveling buddy in Munich for a week in December. My question: I have been looking at the Twin 1st class German Rail Pass Extension and we are planning to go to Colmar and then to Strasbourg for a overnight stay. I am trying to find out if the extension covers Colmar and Strasbourg. Help me to get rid of my total confusion.
Thank You,
GypsyRose
The German Pass Extension only covers the specific, German- or Austrian-operated trains described at http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/germany-rail-passes#extension. It does not cover Colmar and Strasbourg, but you can buy cheap tickets for the French portion, such as from Kehl to Strasbourg for €4 one way, at any German train station. So you may just want the German Twin Pass and not the separate Extension product.
See also the local German regional tickets described through the same link above, if your day trips from Munich are not very far. A Bayern/Bavaria Ticket could get you both to Fuessen or Salzburg, for instance, about €26 for a day's travel on slower, regional trains.
Thank you for your information; it is just what I needed. This has cleared up my total confusion.
