Info on Piedmont area in Italy

Rick does not mention very much about the Piedmont region. We would like to plan a trip to that area in September and would like suggestions/advice regarding that area. We particularly are interested in visiting the wineries. Any comments on the region, hotels, restaurants, sites to see, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kathy

About 10 years ago we spent some time in Piedmont, basing ourselves in Alba. It's big enough to have a number of shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.; but small enough to be easily manageable. It's close to Bra, the motherhouse of the Slow Food movement. Also nearby is Barolo, which has a regional enoteca with more than 100 labels of - - what else? - - Barolo. My recollection is that for a nominal sum you could taste and have some nibbles. Turin is about a half hour away, and could be visited as a day trip It has a renowned Egyptian Museum. It has great food, including pastries and chicolate.
