11 days in Egypt with Djed Egypt Travel

Travel Timeframe: 11 days

Travelers: USA, Spain

Locations: Cairo, Giza, Aswan, Abu Simbel, 3 day Dahabiya cruise, Luxor

My experience with Djed was exceptional, surpassing the high expectations of numerous reviews and recommendations. Every detail was meticulously coordinated from the seamless preparation and planning stage with Mrs. Asmaa to the arrival in Cairo with our attentive transfer representative Foad handling our visas. Our outstanding Giza/Cairo guide Osama tailored the tour to our interests, ensuring an exceptional experience. Osama introduced us to new foods, facilitated visits to landmarks and museums, and recommended iconic experiences based on our interests. Our smooth transfer to Aswan, with Youssef's exceptional assistance and Basma's insightful guidance at Philae Temple and Abu Simbel, further enhanced our trip.

The adventurous Dahabiya cruise, led by our knowledgeable guide Abdulla, offered a personal touch compared to larger cruises. It allowed us to explore temples, tombs, villages, and even swim in the Nile. Our journey concluded in Luxor, with Ahmed and guide Amani providing a seamless experience from visits to Karnak and Luxor temples to a stunning hot air balloon ride and explorations of the Valley of the Kings. We dined at recommended restaurants and stayed at the Winter Palace Hotel to cap off our trip perfectly.

Throughout our travels, Egyptians were friendly and welcoming, ensuring we felt safe the entire trip. Security measures were thorough and reassuring and our guides effectively minimized interactions with persistent hasslers. Embracing the rich culture, we found learning about Islam and the Egyptian way of life fascinating, especially while visiting mosques and hearing the Call to Prayer. Tipping is integral to Egyptian culture and carrying small bills was essential. Payments were generally easy, with credit cards accepted at most locations. We highly recommend Djed as your tour agency in Egypt for an unforgettable, well-organized, and safe travel experience.

As one of the folks who has recommended Djed on this forum, I am delighted to hear that you had a good experience with them. Your trip report brings back so many pleasant memories -- the dahabiya, the food, the learning experiences .... all of it. It was definitely one of my favorite travel experiences.

Amani was our guide in Luxor, too. Isn't she wonderful?

Thank you for sharing your trip experience, we will be going to the same places as you did this December. We booked a private tour as well.
Any tip on finding places for dinner? We will be on our own after the escorted part conclude at the end of the day, any thing we should be aware of when walking around on our own? What's the best way to get small changes for tipping?
Thank you!

Hello!

We had some free time as well after the tour. I recommend asking the guide for recommendations. They know the best places in terms of quality but also to save you some bathroom/stomach issues. If you are not from Egypt, the water will affect you. In fact, I have been home for a week and my stomach is still getting back to normal. It’s very important to find places that use bottled water or at least filtered water when they make ice or cook. Our guides either took us or recommended fabulous restaurants where we didn’t have any issues.

Cairo:
Koshary Abou Tarek (Amazing)

Aswan:
Jamaica King (Amazing)
We ate at our hotel Movenpick

Luxor:
Restaurant El-Kababgy Luxor (Amazing)

As far as walking around alone (without the guide), people will come up to you to sell you things or attempt to guide you to wherever you’re going. Our guides recommended not engaging with these people and ignore them. If you tell them where you are going, they will “lead” you there and expect a tip. There are also beggars who want money. Ignore them as well and don’t ever give money to kids. Djed strongly advises against this as it encourages that behavior.

Hi
Can anyone share what price they paid for their tours?
We’ve looked at several large groups such as offered by cruise lines, but are interested in smaller tour types.

Hi,

For one adult, top-notch hotels with breakfast included, private van, guides, excursions with entrance, and 3 day Nile cruise (all inclusive) was $3,000. I had to pay for airfare to/from Cairo as well as the flight from Cairo/Aswan and then Luxor/Cairo. Tips and souvenirs of course were separate as well.

I should also mention that I was with one other traveler and it was a private guided experience without a large group. That was the best way to go! On the boat cruise we had one other couple plus the crew and guide.

Did you do any "culture experience" activities? for example cooking class or watch a show things like that? I want to stay away from activities that are purely for tourist, but still want to hit some unique experiences. Thank you!

We are heading to Egypt later this month for two weeks with Djed. I am overthinking everything and it's so helpful to see positive reports from those who have traveled before us. Question: does the accommodation in Abu Simbel (Nubian ecolodge) and the dihabiya provide toiletry items (soap / shampoo)?

Hello! I did not stay at Abu Simbel - we stayed on Elephantine Island and took the coach down to Abu Simbel for the day. For the boat cruise, yes they included toilet paper, towels, as well as soap/shampoo. However, it wasn't the highest quality so if you want your own, it would be best to pack them!

Great question. On the boat ride from Aswan to Luxor, we may quite a few stops along the Nile to visit local communities. We saw their way of life and I thought that was fascinating. On the boat, the cruise crew sang and danced for us which was very interactive! In Cairo, we visited mosques and the local markets so we could see daily life there as well. It was full of culture just by walking around the cities/sites. You will love it!
